Just one problem...the hem length.
Ladies in my age bracket who love a pretty summer frock and desire a decent length, preferably to at least the knee are waging an uphill battle. My days of sporting a almost mini are long gone. And please note I'm not singling out any particular brands here, just seems to be a trend of rather high hemlines becoming the norm.
Do you find it near impossible to hunt and gather a suitable design offering an appropriate length?
Or is this predicament only my dilemma every summer?
Another of my favourite brands is the above and I trotted off to secure this little beauty the other day. Lo and behold the lovely and extremely helpful shop assistant informed me this style was super popular and just walked out the door upon delivery. I gasped 'but it's not even spring and I've only just spied this design on the website and and and'. None left in the universe (or maybe it was the state, can't remember my eyes had glazed over).
So a lesson I learnt was 'get with the program Annie' and join mailing lists and be one step ahead and ready to pounce when a desired hem length is all important.
Off now to finish leafing through the mag and reminisce of the good old days when I sported the pins of a sinewy dancer....
xx
Shame, that Veronika Maine dress is gorgeous.x
ReplyDeleteO, I can see why you loved the Black and White stripe dress - it is gorgeous, but too short, yes. And so disappointing to miss the second with the flash of orange, which is lovely too. It has been years since I made a dress, but today I bit the bullet and bought three lengths of fabric to get back into creating my own originals. Fingers crossed, and any good results will appear on blog.
ReplyDeleteSomething Gorgeous ~ I'm still waiting for it to materialise out of thin air lol
ReplyDeletePatricia ~ clever you and I look forward to seeing these frocks on your blog so get sewing pronto!
loving the blog and thrilled you took the plunge! can't waito see more of your garden xx
ReplyDeleteHi FF ~ For sure I shall be posting garden pics, I hope my plot of dirt one day looks as pretty as your garden
ReplyDeleteOh, I hear you Annie! I feel uncomfortable in dresses or skirts shorter than knee length, especially if you're required to sit down!
ReplyDeleteI've resorted to sewing my own. Well, ok, I've bought patterns and fabric and thought about sewing my own...
I am just coming to grips with the whole leg thing. I know I am not 21 anymore but I don't want long daggy stuff. Better luck with your next frock attempt.
ReplyDeleteHi miss annie
ReplyDeleteOh sister here we go again!
I am ringing that bell for you - I love a good "proper" hem length.
we princesses now the correct hem length when we see one don't we.
I live very next to the fabbo Brisbane racecourses - and you see I get to, well, 'see', a lot of hem lengths on the pretty fine young fillies of a weekend.
Tragic it is to see them grabbing at the hem and pulling down, (and this is BEFORE the races have started - and before they have had a few bubbles and relaxed a little)
I think I go back to the days of remembering Fergie (the former Duchess not the great singer) getting out of the car and giving us a flash of the knickers - she never mastered the hem length no matter what meterage it was. In fact she never mastered a lot of lady like things!
Anyway you stylish one - I can see you in the front row next year of MBFW and you will be blogging about your 'gifts' from designers before their release.
have a great day / night lovely
x
Loulou
Kathryn ~ oh you have to get sewing like Patricia and post photos so we can view your summer creations
ReplyDeleteDeb ~ let's say No to daggy stuff, we ladies deserve better
Loulou ~ goodness gracious me the shenanigans from the racecourse must be entertaining. Princess? who's a princess :)
I agree that hemline is much too short!
ReplyDeleteThe second dress is fabulous!
I make a point of finding out when my favourite local boutique is getting a new shipment of the lines that suit me. They have an email newsletter which is much easier than phoning. It has made it so much easier and there is no disappointment.
Please show us your garden!
Annie, I find the too short length problem too - I used to buy dresses from TopShop just a few years ago but recently they are all super short, I do not want to flash my ageing knickers et al when loading up the car at the supermarket etc.
ReplyDeleteHi Annie, I too am struggling with these hemlines, I am still wearing tights to work as I just can't bare my legs at present. Maybe a fake tan may help! Mimixx
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
Hostess ~ disappointment finally provoked me into becoming proactive regarding online newsletters. Ok shall post 'before' garden pics. This area is still in the planning stages...
ReplyDeleteBlighty ~ it appears the too short hemline is a universal problem and who wants to bother donning their bestest knickers just to do the groceries?
Hi Mimi ~ thanks for commenting and I hear you re the tights situation. Fake tan in a bottle is a mainstay for me once I'm into frocks!
ReplyDeleteHemlines are too short these days, every time I shop online and see dresses I like, I think..."if only the hemline was 5 inches LONGER!" Sigh. I favour the 1950s/early 1960s hemline for skirts & dresses.
ReplyDeleteLR ~ yes I agree, that era was so elegant and sophisticated
ReplyDeleteHey Annie. I've been missing again. Sorry
ReplyDeleteThat's why I live in Shorts, Okanuis, down to the knees!
Lou
This hemline thing has been vexing me to no end! Even some dresses I bought for this summer have been hanging sadly unworn, and really should have been returned but it's too late now!
ReplyDeleteThat second dress is gorgeous but don't worry you'll find another.
Lou ~ and you wear those okanuis with style my girl!
ReplyDeleteDani ~ such a shame you have unworn frocks in the closet, isn't that annoying!
