This morning as I sat in my favourite room soaking up the warm rays of sun streaming in the window, I flicked through this coffee table book I picked up recently at a book sale.
Flicking through the pages I noticed a scene which reminded me that my tastes have changed over the years and the techniques I'm using to decorate this house compared to our last big family Queenslander.
The rage in the eighties and nineties was to display numerous antique/vintage family portraits on one wall and our home was no exception.
Whilst we could not boast so many framed photos (below) on one wall we certainly dived into this decor with long passed family smiling down from their photos.
Living in a 100year old home helped carry off this aesthetic to perfection.
These days I prefer minimalism (not to mention less dusting) and only a few special prints from our travels were carefully considered before trotting off to the framers.
Adhering to my preferred black/white/silver theme works brilliantly in this house.
The creation below is a selection of Hanafuda playing cards bought in Kyoto Japan. Rather than hidden away in their little box I decided displaying in a frame would bring us pleasure. After researching the link I suspect two cards may have been inadvertently placed upside down? Oh well it's still beautiful.
The study is our private area to hang the framed photos of our children and a few special landscapes.
My decorating ideas have certainly evolved, but then again I have lived in six homes since marrying and I suppose each home has it's own ideas of how it's walls should be graced?
Do tell.....What is your preference for wall displays... photography, a beautiful painting or other?
