Memories

Last weekend I unpacked this box. We moved three months ago. Slowly but surely getting there.
This box held keepsakes from my children's early years. Royal Doulton & Royal Albert crockery were popular gifts 20+ years ago and my babies were indulged by their relatives.

Now awaiting grand-children. I'm not holding my breath.

Precious little bunny and teddies hand crafted by elderly relatives
My son's antique rattle. A Baptism gift from his Godparents

Can you see my pinkie above? This is my shiny kitchen bench top. Would you like to know how many times a day I need to wipe this service over? I surely have the cleanest benches this side of the black stump because the jet black shows every crumb!
But I love it to bits.

My daughter's Baptism candle. February is wretchedly hot and her candle kind of keeled over 20yrs ago. We made the decision to relegate it to candle heaven

My comb and brush from baby hood. This precious set is Very Old.

Now totally off topic...the latest acquisition to the redroses hacienda. A laundry basket. I'm obsessively particular about laundry hampers and it's taken me yonks to find a suitable style for the main bath. I love this  weathered look. The man of the house asked if I realised it looks like it's been lying on the beach.

Bless him... that's the idea.

Our en suite still requires a new laundry hamper and let me tell you I'm having a devil of a time tracking down the style I want and not paying a small fortune for the privilege.

  1. Bunny Kins is a classic. I have my bowl from my baby days and some from when our children were young.
Your collection will come in handy when you become a grand mother!

The rattle looks like an antique piece, very ornate and possibly a whistle built into the handle...how clever!

    Happy hamper shopping!

  2. I have the Bunnykins from Royal Doulton too. Isn't it so sweet!
Love your new laundry hamper, and I agree that they are difficult to find in a plastic world!

We too have kept the Bunnykins ware, and (so exciting!) will be handing over the first two cups to grandchildren Very Soon!! Your brush and comb set from childhood is beautiful, and so is the antique rattle.

Mmmmm, was thinking of changing to a black benchtop - not so sure now :) But they look Fabulous!

  5. Hostess ~ the rattle is, we think around 100yrs old, I should do some research to be sure. Yes there's a whistle in the handle...you are very observant L.

Dani ~ you've described my predicament perfectly..a plastic world it is for sure!

SG ~ I agree, I can de-clutter with ruthlessness but not with precious keepsakes

Patricia ~ is this a hint you are travelling to Canada soon? How exciting. Oh no don't be deterred by the black benchtop, I really do love it and am extremely happy with this choice

  7. FF ~ this is a small sample, I get very sentimental about my kids treasures. They both have two thick scrapbooks each containing special school/sport achievements and certificates etc. Stuff I can't de-clutter but it's stored in a orderly fashion. Bunnykins is still popular too.

  8. Hi annie

Oh these are so special - I have already a few large (large!) crates of keepsakes from my childrens "things" that I can't let go of.

Love the hamper and Mr Red Roses - well we will train him around to appreciation of the finer things - don't worry. Lets set him up with the computer and some bookmarked sites of great blogs.

    hugs
