New Window Eyebrows

Today I am very excited for two reasons. A major-ish project was completed at the house on the weekend and I'm thrilled to announce The Decorating Forum is featuring my little blog this week.
Pop on over to visit and share in chat and ideas regarding all things design, decorating and more!

We purchased our home in 2010 and one of the first things I noticed was the absence of awnings over some of the windows. Immediately I knew I could not live without some form of protection to stop rain coming through four windows on the bedroom wing. The house was architecturally designed in the early nineties but fancy not including awnings in a sub-tropical climate. While it may have been a trend back then I knew for my own peace of mind we would need to rectify the situation. During a hot Queensland summer I prefer to keep windows open for ventilation and last summer I was driven crazy because as soon as rain fell I would holler 'Rain' and those at home would rip through the house shutting these windows.
So..behold the beauty of our new window eyebrows!

My major wish before next summer was to get awnings in place. Mr red roses is very nifty at researching and sourcing requirements we need for this house renovation and he found this fabulous company online who make up awnings to your specifications. Hubs is most handy so while we still had the use of painters scaffolding he set to getting these babies up over the past week (one wing of the house is rather frighteningly high so we needed scaffolding to paint the exterior which was recently completed).

Oh yes he wears a harness to save falling...a must for this type of work. Just before I snapped this photo I was on the ground working the rope pulley to hoist the awnings up to be fitted on brackets. The design we chose blends in superbly and I couldn't be happier. Now I have the perfect solution to prevent rain pouring in and these windows and this wing of the house has been given much needed character.

I find myself stopping to admire the awnings and do a little happy dance not only as I no longer need to fear a sudden rain shower but the aesthetic is now softer and appealing to the eye.

I hope you love the windows new eyebrows as much as I do.
