Whinging on my blog is territory I try to avoid but I feel like it today.
Wretched Hayfever. Urgghh.
To combat this persistent pesky visitor which is invading my life more and more these days I have resorted to a small arsenal of remedies including a vitamin C and garlic concoction I take all year round.
I have been allergy tested and therefore can avoid a couple of food triggers which go to war with my sinus but what I can't avoid is my environment. Spring is looming and bushes are blooming with all their (to my nose) noxious pollens.
What I desperately need is to visit a humongous city with a fair smattering of pollution and I'll be good as gold. I kid you not. Pollution and I get along just fine.
So hit me with it people...If you are a hayfever sufferer what is in your bag of tricks? I may already have tried your suggestion but if I hear glowing reports that means it's worth another try.
Much appreciated
Annie xx
I have only recently, in the past few years, suffered hayfever. I go for Polaramine, or zyrtec with a chaser of drixine drops up the snout and Albalon A eye drops. Overkill? probably! but I can function.
ReplyDeleteSounds good to me Jodie. If it works then do it. Does Polaramine now come in a non-drowsy formulation?
DeleteWell I suggest you take a trip to New York City! ... if you are after a humungous city with some intense pollution! Ha! I have never suffered hayfever but my youngest brother suffered terribly and he was miserable for years and years. He grew out of it. Maybe you'll grow out of it? A-M xx
ReplyDeleteI can only hope I grow out of it A-M but considering systems commenced in my mid-thirties after moving to Qld I'm not overly confident. So glad your big bro has found relief.
Deletewoops I meant little brother!
DeleteBless you.... You poor thing. Hayfever is a bi#$%# really. At night I apply some vicks vapour rub under my nose and a little in my nostrils. It seems to help. Zyrtec is my day time drug of choice.
ReplyDeleteMust try Zyrtec again and the old Vicks in the nose trick. Thanks Deb and yes hayfever sucks.
DeleteI haven't ever suffered from that so I'm afraid I don't have any tips for you. :( I'm sorry that you aren't feeling 100%! I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your wishes Morgan and I'm happy you are not a sufferer. Where I live in Australia so many folk suffer from hayfever and asthma in part from our native flora.
DeleteRight up there with you, Annie! Bought the triple tissue boxes special at Woolworths yesterday. Using saline nasal sprays these days, as having probs with some of the available drugs. The beautiful but cursed jasmine (which we have tried to eradicate) is blooming all over here again - Ah choooooo
ReplyDeletexxx
Yes the saline is in my arsenal too Patricia and works well. Oh the jasmine is a killer and for me it's wattle which particularly drives me insane, pretty to look at but I loath it's presence.
DeleteOh dear, poor you, I wish I could help but I don't suffer from this. I do hope you find something to ease this. x
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzy, hayfever seems to be a common affliction in my neck of the woods.
DeleteOh dear, hayfever is the pits! My hubby gets it really bad so it is Zyrtec and a mountain of tissues for him.
ReplyDeleteHi Sim, oh poor hubby I'm sending empathy his way. Another vote for Zyrtec, this med must work well.
DeleteI swear by Loradadine and Nasonex (worth every penny) but I am warding off dust mites so might be different. I've heard netti pots for washing out your sinus is good but I haven't tried it. Hope you are feeling better soon! L xx
ReplyDeleteHave never heard of this Loradadine Lotus, I must inquire at the chemist. Dust mites are the devilswork and impossible to eradicate, poor you..uphill battle. Yes those netti pots intrigue me and I should investigate.
DeleteMy sister uses the netti pot and she really thinks it helps. She has suffered terribly for years. I hope you're feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteI have heard good reports about the netti pot Sulky. I believe it takes a bit of practice to get use to using it? Thanks for your good wishes.
DeleteDo not blow your nose with sinus.!! first lesson Annie. It agrivates the sinuses.. I learnt this after many years of suffereing with it.
ReplyDeleteYou are in the country with the Eucolyptus trees! get lots and lots to make a warm inhaler..natural ..with the cloth over your head.
put your head back once in a while and slowly the sinuses will get relief.
"Olibus oil" fantastic. - massage your cheeks below the eyes.. Wow, Annie, I sound like a doctor.. but these methods trully work.
Also eat lots of black fruits and juices too. sinus can be caused through stress and eating habits too.
Doctor val, signing off. hoping that you get over the horrible sinus soon.
xxx val
Ha Ha hello Dr Val and thanks for these recommendations. It makes perfect sense to not overdo the blowing of the nose. My dad used Olbus oil many years ago, I recollect for arthritis if my memory serves me correctly and he swore by it's medicinal properties. Thanks for reminding me about this oil.
DeleteOh dear just suffered my first bout as the strong winds blew in the newly flowering canola!!!! I now know my sympathy levels for Top were never high enough... I was a bad, bad wife!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey did give me Zaditen for the eyes and it did work before I scratched them totally out of my head!!! xx
Hi Jules, one has to suffer from hayfever to really appreciate how thoroughly rotten it makes you feel, some days I literally drag myself around. So no, you were not a bad wife. My husband has been sneezing of late so he has a touch of it now and is more sympathetic to my whinging.
DeleteZaditen is what I use in my eyes, works well.
No fun.. I think the Vitamin C and garlic is a great idea. I've got one of those vacuums with a hepa filter and my washing machine has an allergen cycle.. not sure if this helps either but I use it anyway
ReplyDeleteFeel better,
leslie
Thanks Leslie, I have a ducted vacuum cleaner and polished wooden floors throughout so no carpet which helps. The vitamin C concoction I take every morning and if I stop I get quite ill so I truly believe it works wonders.
DeleteAnnie, can I ask what the vitamin c concoction is that you take? Mxx
DeleteOh, hayfever is sucha pain in the butt! I get it, but thankfully too all the time. I can't even remember what tablets and nose spray I use! I hope you get some relief x
ReplyDeleteI am a shocking sufferer, but I never had it in Brisbane, just in the farm and now in Melb, I get hayfever from wattle, jasmine, pink lily flowers, all grasses, most pollens, wheat dust is the worst and my father's a wheat farmer Anyway, these days I take Telfast 180 once a day, it works wonders for me and I have a humidifier in the room at night with the oil menthol stuff in it. On bad windy Melbourne days I stay inside, And I just wait til the season ends. Nothing else works for me. And I avoid dairy as much as possible when I have it as it seems to worsen it. Mxxx
ReplyDeleteBest remedy is the seaside - when I hit the beach it all goes away. O/wise I use a spray called Beconase (or something like that) which works well, but watch out if you are routinely drug tested as it contains steroids. Oh don't get me started ..... xxx
