But I Have Nothing To Wear...

Well yes I do have outfits to choose from for an evening of dining out and a performance in the city, however, after flicking through a Grazia magazine looking at sublime young creatures in gorgeous fashionable gear I really have the urge to vamp up my wardrobe.
Easier said than done. My conservative tastes stem from growing up in the era of all pieces matchy matchy with no mixing of patterns etc etc etc.
I suspect Conservative is in my DNA.
Conservative comes into its own when packing for trips..black, white, grey is a no brainer and I can set foot on the plane knowing the contents of my luggage will speak to each other throughout the journey. No hissy fits allowed amongst my apparel thank you.

The first two pics from the magazine caught my eye but probably more suited to hip young things who can wear towering heels. Like my daughter.
The third pic is more my DNA. Safe, predictable, neutral.
Do you ever have the urge to break out and reinvent the contents of your wardrobe?

  1. Love the third pic! I share your preference for neutrals. Regarding style, I think mature women can wear something trendy.. just not too much. Style choices also depend on how well we are aging. Most of us in our fifties see a change in muscle and skin.. so we want to cover more.

    Fun and stylish post :)

  2. The third one is beautiful, so classic, but I don't think of it as conservative. Stylish, yes.
I tend to stick to very basic things so I can get good mileage out of my clothes. I hate owning things that aren't worn to death. Plus, I'm always on a budget. But then I'll do odd things like wearing my corporate (paid for by work) cardi (with the logo picked off), a $3 tshirt from Coles over a $12 top from Supre (I know!) and cheap jeans with a $200 scarf!! I'd actually like to go into Country Road and buy a couple of nice fresh, brighly coloured things for spring. Sometimes there's just nothing in there, but at the moment I see a lot I like x

  3. Yes Annie, sometimes I just want to empty the contents of my robe and burn it all on my front lawn.
Think its high time for me to do some serious clothes shopping,
    warm wishes,

  4. Glad to see you also read Grazia, Annie. Sometimes I tell myself I am too old to be looking keenly at that mag for style ideas, but then, why not? It is all about making the fun items work in a suitable way (hopefully). Yes, I sometimes want to toss out the lot and start again, but that is not really an option. Most of my clothes seem to be neutrals and conservative. I like to have fun with the accessories! An interesting post and topic, thank you. xx

  5. Always! But those old black, white and greys keep rearing their ugly head. I feel safe, thinner and more ,shall I say, tasteful in these coil ours. I love the reaction when you occasionally splash out in a burnt orange or vibrant red. its almost worth the wait for all the gushing compliments!!

  6. The third image is my favourite! Yes, I am conservative as well when it comes to clothes. I admire others who can work colour effortlessly into their wardrobe, but it's a rarity for me.

  7. I like to mix it up with accessories. Fashion should be fun and breaking out of a rut or routine is healthy.
I'd just be cautious not to show too much skin!

  8. Oh I like all these - its a great shoot. You'd look fab in them! But I can see that pieces from pic 1 would take careful mixing, and as you say, that wouldn't be great for travelling. You could get a funky fur jacket though - I love that one in pic 2. And the bag on her arm - why has she two bags? Never mind, its Fashion LOL! Pic 3 is great - wearable and attractive. Conservative? In a good way maybe - I'd say classic. I hope you get to the shops soon and please show us what you buy!

Incidentally, all these outfits would be too cold for the British summer we're currently enjoying LOL! xxx

  9. Hi Annie! I love all 3 outfits, the first 2 are very hip and glam, I love the 3rd one too and I think you are beating yourself up far too much about, I think it's great, and traveling with neutrals is always wise. If you feel as though the 3rd outfit needs injecting, you could add colourful accessories or some coordinating metallic/metal accessories, which are all the rage down here at present. In industrial shapes. Mxxx ps: add creams and latte colours too to the blacks whites and greys. Red is also a "neutral" too I have learned recently so maybe add red too? and red lipstick as well? Stunning.

  10. Thank you everyone for your marvellous, witty and helpful thoughts. Sometimes it's nice to dream of clearing out one's clothing and starting again.
