Ok peoples I need you to tell me what type of social media you use to blog post while traveling outside of your home country. I shall be traveling overseas and need to get my act together and stop my poor brain from stressing about how I can share bits and pieces of the trip.
Lately I have been experimenting at home with different apps etc.
Blog press for iPad has been working ok until lately when it's thrown a few hissy fits (if this post I'm writing on blog press publishes I will be a happy girl).
The iPhone blogger app works a treat but is a little tiresome if there's more than several photos to load and lots of text, but still quite easy enough.
Blogsy for iPad I installed and let me tell you it is doing my head in. I can't figure it out. I really don't think Blogsy and I are compatible. Much like roman blinds and me...not a good match!
Instagram might just be the medium I will rely on while traveling to share visual delights. Loving Instagram to bits and could it be any easier?
Facebook I ventured into several weeks ago and really didn't give myself enough time to acclimatize to it's eccentricities before I spat the dummy. But hey that's not unusual, I usually realize quickly when something doesn't 'fit' with me but I'm kind of loathe to abandon FB altogether so haven't wiped the page as I imagined I would. Yes I know...'go figure'?
Another consideration is I will only have the phone and tablet, no laptop. Plus I do not wish to spend countless frustrating minutes battling with social media to blog post while holidaying. Are we spoilt for choice in having countless mediums at our disposal?
Soooo do you have any suggestions? I have gathered info from friends/ bloggers who've travelled over the seas but I suspect these gals are a tad more savvy than moi.

I'm no help I'm afraid, because I never blog when I'm on holiday. I find it difficult enough when I'm at home! I admire your dedication though!

DeleteWow, love your pretty pink technology - but alas I cannot offer any suggestions re blogging, unless a laptop or borrowed computer is involved. I hope I can access the Instagram if that is the way you go, being a dinosaur with no Iphone (as yet!) Happy travelling, and look forward to hearing about it xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Patricia, you don't need an iPhone to see my Instagram photos! Over on the sidebar is Instagram Love, click on follow and my gallery appears. Click on a photo to enlarge and scroll down to read any comments. One must however be on Instagram to comment (I presume). So if I only insta while away you can still watch the action.

Oh Annie, I share your struggles. If I were you I would just instagram my travels. Easy quick instant. In fact, I am more or less instagramming far more than blogging. I just write my blog posts in my head and file away in an area marked "never to be shared lest people think you are a lunatic". Works for me at the moment. Hang in there with facebook. It is taking me a long time but I am beginning to see the light. It is also fairly instant compared to blogging. Like a fine wine, I think it takes time to mature. I appreciate your take on FB, I wrote a little blurb on it saying I was not continuing but at the back of my mind I wondered if I was being hasty. Yes totally agree I like the quick easy options with social media.

When I last travelled overseas I was not a blogger, so I can't really advise there. I know that the first thing that you have to do when you get wherever is to get a local Sim card. Blogging when travelling in Australia has always been a nightmare for me and i carry a telstra elite prepaid wifi. But I have a couple of tricks that I have found recently that help when I blog at home and I have just tested them on my Ipad. I cannot express how very happy I am to have found the Google+ app. As you are a blogspot blogger you will find this incredibly, unbelievably wonderful. Do you use it already? If not you must. I have it set to instantly upload all my photos ( you can choose just to have that happen in wifi) from the google + app you can then select all the photos you want to use and Post them- but only to yourself. Then when you are doing a post all the photos are already loaded in your account and there ready to just select- AND they are there in Picasa on blogsy!! I also have an eye fi card in my DSLR (but tese cards will also go into many point and shoot- I have a canon g12 that it works in as well as my 5D) THe card sets up its own little wifi connection and sends all the photos straight to my iphone or Ipad- I have the app on both in case I run out of space on one or the other). I can also send them to my computer if I am at home. They go into the camera roll and then to google+ automatically. HAve a look at these, they might just work for you in your travels. If you are going to the states wifi is everywhere so you should be fine with that. If I have been a bit unclear here just let me know, I have subscribed to the comments here, cos this technology business fascinates me, and I am sure that I can learn from your other commenters! My workflow has improved so much thanks to these 2 little tricks I've found.
ReplyDeleteWow you sound very knowledgable Jodie, thanks for this helpful comment. No I don't have the goggle+ app but do have iCloud installed which sounds similar and find this extremely good with transference of photos between phone and iPad.

DeleteI don't know Annie. I'm not getting an iPad now but a little little super powered "netbook" instead, due to these exact issues you write about. I can't run the stuff I want and need in an iPad anyway, so no blogsy or whatever apps for me to wrestle with I don't think. I admire your dedication to blog whilst away. Instagram is great though. Maybe just take it all and try it and if it doesn't work out, just instagram and don't stress about it too much. Mxxx
ReplyDeleteThanks M, yes common sense will rule. Instagram will be the easiest...photos will be on my phone and easy enough to send in a wi-fi area or from hotel. The new gizmo of which you speak sounds interesting.

ReplyDeleteI am behind on everything.. Instagram is easy and you can save them on your phone. My phone didn't work in Europe (you have to pay for all these add on's) so I didn't text or call anyone.
