Procrastinating

Firstly may I say thank you to everyones lovely comments concerning my upcoming trip to New York. I appreciate the excitement you feel for me and it is lovely to be able to share this news with you. Now the most pressing thing on my mind, of course, is packing. I have my wardrobe and shoes mostly sorted but am in a dilemma about whether to pack boots. Would this be overkill for October? I am taking super comfortable Merrill walking shoes, a low heeled mary jane for dining out and am also debating whether to pack a pair of sandals. Will it be warm enough for sandals during fall in NY?? I stalk the weather reports and read trip advisers for recommendations but am getting mixed signals about what the weather can do during October. I have decided to take my light wool coat just in case. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I'm trying to stick to my usual three pairs of shoes limit. While I sat this morning in my pretty room deliberating world peace and which shoes to take I snapped some instagram photos and wasted time playing with filters because isn't this just the best thing to do when procrastinating? And writing blog posts when I should be actioning all sorts of jobs and errands!! Annie xx
Am I the only one having trouble with the new blogger interface layout? My draft is written with appropriate spacing then preview and published post is bunched together plus I can only enable the large size photo and I prefer the extra-large option plus the photo is no longer displayed in the draft, only codes? :-(

    1. Thank you I'm excited too, so much so I'm walking around in circles. Shall be on the look out for decks. I can't believe how many people have just been, are now in or about to head to NY. Is NY the new black?!

  2. I have spent a week in New York in early October, and while every year is not the same, I would not bother with the sandals if going again. We found it varied from mild, with light breezes and sunshine, to cold. One day we went to Greenwich Village and I was probably wearing a single layer long sleeve. I was so freezing I had to buy a wool shawl to wrap up in. If it were me, I would take the boots, which offer more protection to the feet on those very busy streets, especially if it is wet. Still jealous!! xxx

  3. Thanks for this Partricia, that's yourself and a FB friend who recommend taking the boots. Sharing travel experiences through blogs is invaluable! There is nothing worse than feeling chilled to the bone so I should go prepared. Layering is good.

  4. Hello Annie

I would take your boots, only, if they are very comfortable. No sandals needed. Wear black and you will fit in with the New Yorkers. You will notice that New Yorkers walk fast. It is good to travel lightly and perhaps buy something if needed. Wear a small handbag, across the body and bring only the necessary credit cards. Keep some $5 and $10 folded in your pocket and use this for purchases when in a crowded shop, rather than open a purse.

    Enjoy

    Helen xx

    1. You are a woman after my own heart Helen. My colour palette consists of black grey & white and my boots are super comfy, flat sole which I place my orthotics in. They are now definitely coming along. I also have a small cross body purse for the essentials.

  7. I've only been to New York in the middle of summer - stinking hot, and at Christmas - freezing cold. Not sure what October is like.

I had problems with the photos too when I was using internet explorer. I changed to Google Chrome (more compatible with Blogger) and haven't had any problems. I've still got internet explorer on my computer but if I try to use it, the photos still won't work properly. Hope this helps.

    1. Two visits to NY oh you lucky girl.
Thanks for the blogging tip Kylie. I have chrome on the desktop and safari on the laptop. The new blogger format has been forced on me now after resisting for months and since this happened I'm having problems. Frustrating.just like hackers!

  8. Hi Annie, maybe take ankle boots? I always do with a heel. They dress up outfits and u can wear with jeans or suit/corporate pants etc. (bit melbourney I know) but I think it looks good. :-) and its multi-outfit. V e cited to read you are goo g to ny! I want to go too. Mxx

    1. Alas I don't possess ankle boots M, I must put a pair on next winters shopping list, better still I may find a pair in NY.
The boots (which it looks like I'm taking) are super comfortable and I can put my orthotics in them and there're sort of three-quarter so fairly versatile.

  9. Def take boots but only if they're comfortable. New York is made for walking, and heels will kill your feet at the end of the day! It can be chilly in October, but the clothes are so cheap you can just grab something there. Shoes are more important. Take some you love, and can wear for hours!

I'd just do boots, some other flats and a pair of multi-tasking heels for evening.

I love New York! Will follow your trip with a smile! Have a lovely, lovely time.

    1. Thanks for these suggestions Janelle, you are right about taking shoes that are known to be comfortable for hours of walking. I really was dithering about the boots but you girls have helped me decide to take them. The wrong shoes can make or break a holiday. So looking forward to our NY experience!

  11. I would take a good pair of boots with a medium heel. I brought mine to Paris and they were functional, comfy, and worked for going out in the evening. If you are planning to do a lot of walking.. take SEVERAL pairs of shoes because even the Merrills will feel uncomfortable! Stalk the weather and have fun with all the planning for your trip! That's part of the fun :)

    1. Hi Leslie, I've heard exactly the same from others that even the most comfortable shoes make our feet tired after hours of walking. I expect we may have several coffee breaks during the day.

  13. NYC!!! :) Oh I LOVE NYC, it's been almost a year since we last went. You will LOVE it! I would take a light wool jacket, I took my winter jacket in November and I only had to wear it a few times, other times I would just wear a sweater and a scarf/gloves as it would be milder outside. Wear comfy boots/shoes. Can't wait to hear what all you will be doing! Two of my friends are going in November and asked me for NYC advice, I emailed both of them with the disclaimer "you will have to print off this email as it is a LONG one!" lol
