...I see you.
Mr red roses was foofing around in his workshop (man shed) under the house and called out to me to come and say hello to our newest resident. For a while now we suspected a wee critter had moved in!
This little darling has made a home underneath our house. He or she is snug and toasty between the house floorboards and an old door that's been tied up and suspended, so the gap is tiny but that's all a native brush-tail possum needs to create a safe abode to sleep the day away.
These critters can become rather problematic (refer to the above link) if they take up residence in the ceiling of a house and once settled don't appreciate being evicted, but truly, when you see a cute little munchkin face such as this...What's not to love.
Every area we've lived in comes with possums in the neighbourhood so I suppose we have, to a certain degree, learnt to live with these little bundles of trouble.

I didn't realise they are protected. Cute little face, but I hope he's not sending Party Invites to all his relatives!
ReplyDeleteSulky I won't be the least surprised if our resident is a young female who will have a baby soon and the family will be here to stay!
DeleteAW, cute little possum ... how can something with such a sweet face make such a thunderous noise when they decide to run across the rooftop??? We have one living in a tree beside the house, and he/she waits until the parsley plant is growing nicely, then comes along and eats the lot in a night leaving me with a bunch of stems. I like to think I contribute to possum's vitamin C needs. Living close to nature is really rather fun.
ReplyDeleteJust like you Patricia we adore living amongst nature and enjoy the fauna which comes with the territory. I'm sure the possum is very appreciative of the cardinals providing his Vitamin C intake !
DeleteWhat a joy to see that little face. I am delighted you are happy to share your space with him.
ReplyDeleteMy late father used say there is room for everyone in this world.

I checked on our little visitor during the day and she snoozed with her head hanging over the edge of the door with one eye partly open to remain alert and vigilant. Hubs no doubt gave her a fright.
DeleteI like your Dad's philosophy Helen.
Gorgeous little eyes! Suzy x
ReplyDeleteThey only venture out at night Suzy so it's difficult to grab a decent picture. Possums really are very cute.
DeleteWe used to have one under our house at our last place. It used to make this funny scratching noise ever night to remind us we weren't alone! xx
ReplyDeleteOh yes know that sound well from previous inhabitants at our last two houses plus we've had the joy of them redecorating the insulation in the ceilings. Hubs has spent considerable time over the years blocking up roof gaps. We used possum boxes on our acreage, must install some on this block me thinks.
DeleteHow sweet Annie.
ReplyDeleteHe is safe and warm there. He has found his home.!
lovely photo, you were lucky to be able to take it and not have him run away.
thanks for this little story
happy Sunday

I will never ever forget the first time I heard a possum on our ti'n roof, I was absolutely convinced there was an fault man up there! We have frequent visitors here too but I've never captured such a sweet photo of one.
